News reports kept the plight of her family in the headlines for years, playing out this very personal experience in a very non-personal way. Numerous other stories were reported of the families of those whose wishes could not be made known fighting with government agencies to make the right decisions for these individuals. In the Terri Schiavo case a family has been torn apart and will probably never recover.

The biggest shame is that this could have been taken care of easily and simply with a Living Will. A Living Will is also known as a Physicians Directive. It helps indicate what kind of care you wish to receive if you are ever in a terminal or vegetative state and are unable to express your wishes yourself. A Living Will allows you to name a person to make decisions regarding the direction of your care. This could be a family member or your doctor. You can even choose to have a combination of the above.

A Living Will allows your wishes to be fulfilled without creating guilt or misplaced anger on your loved ones. The decision is made by you. Lincoln Legal Services is providing this document free of charge as a service to the community.
